JODIE MAE
LEAD LEVELS

Jodie Mae’s introduction to glass was out on her back deck in Sydney as a little girl. She watched her mum build leadlights and lampshades for friends, marveling at how strong she was to. be bending metal with her bare hands! Years on and after a beginning in Fine Art, she eventually found her way back to glass taking a course on what she thought was a whim.

She quickly realised solder and lead are easy to bend as bench butter. So while her mum may not of had super strength she was onto something with glass.

A few years on, it’s the core of Jodie Mae’s creativity and career. Despite the often bleeding fingertips and knotted shoulders her journey through glass has evolved across “silly little flowers” to sentimental commissions, 35m of custom curved leadlights, and now large collaborative international projects.

Her work is rooted in nostalgia and personality, brimming with personality and honesty constantly informed by the ephemera around her. Lead Levels looks to the past while striding toward the future of glass.
